"The City of London has seen a sustained reduction in crime for the past five years.
This has been a significant achievement and has only been accomplished with the
support of the City of London Crime Prevention Association,
which provides one of the vital links between the Police and the Community."

Mike Bowron,
Commissioner of Police for the City of London.

In 2005 the committees of Bishopsgate Crime Prevention Association (BCPA) and Wood Street Crime Prevention Association (WSCPA) agreed to the concept of amalgamation, which included an invitation to the Snow Hill CPA. Initial canvassing indicated positive support from the membership of the BCPA and WSCPA and a joint working group was established, culminating in both Associations agreeing to amalgamation in the first quarter of 2006. Roy Partington, the acting Chairman of BCPA, did a sterling job with the Charity Commissioners, thereby enabling the new  Association to subsume the charitable status of the former BCPA with effect from 31st March 2006.

On 10th May at the Barber Surgeons Livery Hall, the first extraordinary general meeting was held and all officers, trustees and committee members were elected unanimously. The Commissioner of Police for the City of London, Dr James Hart, together with the Chairman of the City of London Police Committee, Mr Keith Knowles, attended the meeting and made statements endorsing the amalgamation and wishing every success and support going forward.

Keith additionally accepted the appointment of Honorary Patron which later that day was endorsed by the full Police Committee, with the additional rider that all successive chairmen of the Police Committee would assume this role.

It would be remiss of me not to thank all previous officers and committee members of both BCPA and WSCPA who are not joining the new committee for their unstinting support and professional application over the past years.

To all existing members, I thank you for your support in creating this new Association which I know will add greater value to crime prevention in this fine City of ours. To those who are not currently members, hopefully this note will persuade you to consider joining the City of London Crime Prevention Association.
